A grinder is a mill used to grind hard, small food pieces between two revolving rough surfaces that are usually adjustable, into a consistent size.  Burr grinders produce less static in the grinding process, hopefully making them easier to clean, ideal for coffee granules. Varieties can be electric or manual and are generally used for coffee beans, peppercorns, coarse salt, etc.
