For decades now, families have sat at the dinner table to enjoy a superlative dining experience. Yet, as the years have carried on we have become a society that regularly eats dinners, lunches and breakfasts away from the harmony of a dinner table. We eat in the car before work, we walk around with a snack during lunch, and dinners are often spent in front of the television. Banish the quick and easy call of the fast-food restaurant once and for all! Let’s bring the fun back into mealtimes and place ourselves at a table for most meals.
Setting up a dinner table can be made fun and exciting; and once your kids are into it, they too can set the dinner table without any supervision. Creating the basic dinner table is a breeze - place plates roughly three centimetres away from the edge of the table, with all knifes on the right and forks on the left. One of the more complicated aspects of setting up a dinner table, namely the order of the cutlery, can be easily explained. Cutlery is placed in the order of the meal. So on the outside would be the cutlery for the starters, in the middle would be cutlery for the mains and the order continues until the meal is completed. The addition of a centrepiece is a great idea, as it can complement a dinner setup without cramping the style of the dinner table. Add a delightful bouquet of flowers or a bowl overflowing with decorative items, or keep it simple and only include a single flower in a skinny vase. The options are indeed endless, especially with the addition of our Denby Jet Skyline tableware.
